Seasonality of insulin resistance, glucose and insulin levels among middle-aged and elderly participants of the Rotterdam Study

      Introduction: Previous studies have shown a seasonal variation of glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin. However, the underlying mechanisms are not completely understood. We aimed to examine the seasonal variation of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), glucose and insulin, and to evaluate the effect of markers of lifestyle behavior (body mass index (BMI) and physical activity (PA)) and of meteorological factors in this pattern.
