The use of hormone replacement therapy worldwide has declined since the WHI combined
HRT trial reported an increased risk of breast cancer on combined oestrogen and progesterone
HRT [
[1]
]. Shortly afterwards in 2003 the Million Women Study [
[2]
], a retrospective/prospective epidemiological cohort study reported a similar finding
with not only combined HRT but also oestrogen alone HRT and tibolone showing an increased
risk of breast cancer. The more recent oestrogen only WHI Study reported no increased
risk of breast cancer on therapy [R2 = 0.77 (0.59–1.01)] and underlined the importance and level of evidence obtained
from randomised clinical trials [
